Beth Davidson has worked in the field of photographic and visual media production for over 20 years, specialising in youth, community and sport development. From 1992, Beth built up a large portfolio of work as Photographic Officer at North Kesteven District Council in Lincolnshire, managing an extensive programme of participatory projects and exhibitions throughout the county. In 2002, she moved back to her Northeastern roots and became an Associate at Durham City Arts, working extensively within the public sector, youth and community organisations, developing, creating and managing digital media projects in Durham City. During the four years with Durham City Arts, Beth was the primary arts producer for the company on such projects as ‘Radio’ community drama performance and video project at the Gala Theatre in Durham, and ‘Rain from the Hometown’ book and video exploring Chinese immigration to the North East.
Beth has been working with Cornerstone/The Chambers since 2003 on the Durham Visioning portfolio of projects. Contracted originally as recorder for the Voices of Durham ‘archetype’ creative community engagement, Beth stepped out from behind the camera in 2005 and began working on concept development within the Cornerstone team: brainstorming, recording and helping implement the engagement methodology that led to the creation of the Durham Necklace Park. In 2006 she became Assistant Producer of Cornerstone’s ‘Mapping the Necklace’, working to find and record local and regional ‘mappers’, and producing a series of 20 short films of virtual and physical mapping of the ephemeral park, premiered at Dott 07’s Design festival in Newcastle Gateshead October 2007.
Beth until recently represented and captained Great Britain and England fencing squads and achieved Commonwealth gold and silver medals. She continues to work with the fencing governing body as a selector and under 20’s manager, developing aspects of the sport during the run up to the London 2012 Olympics. |
