Martin Hulse is an associate consultant with Cornerstone.

For the past seven years he has been working at the heart of physical development  projects ensuring a commitment to design quality and sustainability.  Initially this was from the point of view of the third sector where he was the Director of the Cockburn Association (The Edinburgh Civic Trust).  To undertake the role of watchdog he operated a design review panel and worked closely with developers, architects, politicians and the local authority to raise aspirations and challenge mediocrity and compromise.

Following this he swapped sides to work for one of the regional development agencies, One NorthEast.  The influence of the funder brought about a whole new set of challenges and his expertise had to be expanded to consider the sustainability agenda and the requirement to reduce the levels of energy used in new development.

He has an interest in the historic environment and has served as an advisor to Scottish Ministers and the Edinburgh World Heritage Trust, while the cutting edge elements can be seen in his role as a Low Carbon consultant and a BREEAM assessor.

In all his work the main focus is on the user, whether this is acting as a champion for the community in Edinburgh or working to solve accessibility issues within complex developments.
