Informing Policies - II

Client
Grosvenor Estates / British Council for Shopping Centres

Brief

What trends will be driving our industry over the next twenty years?
What are the implications for the size, location and style of future shopping centres?

Approach

Working with the Future Foundation , we conducted an environmental scan of the economic, social, demographic and political factors which will shape the shopping centre industry of the future. We also convened an expert panel from across the sector, going beyond the ‘usual suspects’ to include some left-field thinkers on shopping and cities. An economic model of shopping centre demand and supply was built, enabling us to project floorspace and sales over a 20 year period.

Outcome
A report, launched at the annual BCSC conference, which received considerable ongoing press coverage in the specialist and business press.

Feedback

“New research published at the BCSC Conference urges shopping centre landlords, developers and retailers to act now to take advantage of looming realities over the next 20 years. If they don’t they face the prospects of missing out”
