Client
One NorthEast Rural Team

Brief
Can home-based working, for example virtual call centres, generate signficant new employment in our rural areas? And if so, what can we do to support the sector?

Approach
Working alongside social and environmental consultancy Future Perspectives, we conducted extensive desk and field research into the issue, focusing on four very different rural areas of the North East: Berwick, Derwentside, Tynedale and Wear Valley.

Outcome

A series of short-term recommendations were made on how to influence the speed and direction of change in this rapidly evolving market. Key project findings will be published in the forthcoming edition of the Journal of Rural Enterprise and Management.
